City Park Food Truck Rally

I don’t know if there is a much more romantic business idea that is actually attainable than a food truck. We all have that one dish that we know would make a killing if you served it in a food truck (or so our friends tell us), but making it a reality might not be in the cards for all. Regardless, they [food trucks] seem to have popped up nearly overnight here in Fort Collins, much in the same way that breweries have popped up here. That’s actually a pretty good correlation now that I write it, as the most common place that you see food trucks are in the parking lots of breweries across town.

During the summer months, a conglomeration of food trucks gather every Tuesday evening in City Park for a food truck rally. I’ve been once or twice in the past (turns out that our kids eating schedules are a bit different than most, and in the absence of food right away upon getting home they turn into gremlins) but I was able to get our younger daughter up to the food truck rally this past week to scope out the scene after a year and a half hiatus (Thanks COVID).

The lines were already stacking up when we got there at 5:30

I was quite surprised how much activity was already taking place when we showed up right at 5:30. Pretty quickly we had to move through the alley of food trucks via the grass to be able to scope out what we wanted to eat. While there is a lot of food trucks to choose from, there are not a plethora of great kids options (food truck business idea?) so we made our way all the way down the line to the corn doggy truck where I knew there might be something enticing to a kid.

After getting your food, its nice to be able to stretch out where ever you want on the grassy knoll at the top of city park. The live music is a nice touch that adds to the experience, and in general, everyone seems to respect each other and their space and it does not feel too crowded once you get away from the bustle of the food truck alley. Make sure to bring a blanket or seating, and if you can’t walk there, parking gets tight pretty quickly. With a multitude of options to choose from, live music, and open air picnic seating, the food truck rally is a great place to spend an evening out with the family, while being able to sample many different foods from the variety of trucks.

Here is a link to the website for the food truck rally. While it isn’t packed with info, it does provide links to social media sites where you can see which bands will be playing each week. The food trucks themselves and their menu's are not listed on the site as they do rotate a bit, but at the same time, not every Fort Collins food truck will be represented at the rally. If you already have a favorite truck that you follow, you are probably best checking their specific social media page to see where they will be on different days.
