Setting Some Boundaries

Setting boundaries is big in the Borgman household as we raise 2 kids under the age of 10, but these aren’t the type of boundaries I am talking about. If you were to ask 10 Fort Collins residents on where “Old Town” is, I bet you would get 7-10 different answers on how they define Old Town.

Old Town Fort Collins

Here is the broad geographic boundary that I consider “Old Town” Fort Collins. It is very difficult to put an exact geographic boundary on an area, because the perception fo what is old town changes from person to person. While the architecture is the main driving factor of what I would consider old town, I’m also a bit more generous on my old town boundary on the far NW part of town, as some of that area really isn’t comprised of “Old” architecture, but still allows one to enjoy the rest of what there is to offer in the area. In particular, I’m thinking of the “Hanna Farm” and “Mountain View” neighborhoods, which while geographically are close in proximity, have architectural styles more closely associated with post war times as opposed to turn of the century architecture that most people envision when they hear “Old Town”. The same is true on the far south part of my boundary on streets like Circle Dr which were largely built in the 1940-50’s. However, at least on the West side of College, a majority of the geographic area is split between 2 Elementary school districts: Putnam to the NW and Dunn to the SE. Most of my focus on Old Town is on that particular section of town, as that is where I live, have the most insights, and best frame of reference.
